5 Easy Coffee Syrups to Make at Home (Vanilla, Caramel, Lavender Syrups & More)
We all look for flavor, café-quality, and convenience when it comes to coffee.
And how do you make café drinks at home?
You do that with coffee syrups, delicious coffee beans, and a few moments of your time.
On these slow, hot summer mornings, I personally crave an iced coffee that’s quick to make and has the flavor I want.
I have tried fancy syrups, and I love some of them, but it’s always good to be creative on the weekend and make syrups at home with your magical personal touch.
That’s what I do, and I urge you to do the same.
Adding only sugar to coffee is good, but sweetening it with flavor is always lovely, and these simple syrups will turn your daily cup into something softer, special, and more personal.
Let’s first understand what a syrup is before we get to the recipes, or you can scroll down and read now. 🙁
What Is a Coffee Syrup?
Coffee syrup is a flavored, sugary liquid you add to your coffee to sweeten it or give it a distinct taste.
Syrups are basically made with sugar, water, and the specified flavor.
It takes about 10–15 minutes to make it on the stove, and you can store it in the fridge for 1–2 weeks and add it to any drink of your choice.
Now, let’s understand the basics of syrup making and how to move forward from there.
Base Coffee Syrup Recipe
This is the syrup base used in all recipes.
Once you’ve made it, you can take it up a notch by making flavored coffee syrups.
For now, let’s prepare a syrup base.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 1 cup of water
Steps:
- Heat water in a pot over medium heat, then add sugar once it’s hot.
- Stir the mixture until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Let it simmer lightly on very low heat.
Pro Tip: Use brown sugar for a deeper taste and caramel-style notes.
Now that we have this base syrup, we can add flavors and make our syrups.
So, let’s get it done.
The 5 Coffee Syrup Recipes
1. Vanilla Coffee Syrup (Classic Café Style)
Vanilla Syrup has a warm, sweet, and universally appealing taste.
It adds a beautiful, creamy touch to your coffee.
You can make different drink styles with it, including a Vanilla Spanish Latte.
Let’s get to the recipe.
Recipe:
- Add 1 or 2 tbsp vanilla extract OR 1 vanilla bean into your simmering coffee syrup base.
- Stir it until it’s fully mixed, and a vanilla scent wafts towards you.
- Put it down on the slab.
- Once, it’s cool to store in a glass bottle or a glass jar.
- Store it in the fridge.
Now that you have your vanilla syrup ready, use it in my Full Moon Brew OR Iced Brown Sugar Latte recipe.
2. Lavender Coffee Syrup (Floral & Calm)
Lavender Coffee Syrup has a soft, floral, calming, and relaxing vibe that soothes you.
Let’s get to the Lavender Coffee Syrup Recipe:
- To our syrup base, add 1–2 tsp culinary lavender.
- Stir it until it’s completely mixed.
- Let it simmer with lavender leaves, then strain once it has cooled.
- Store in a glass jar or bottle.
Important: Don’t overuse lavender, as it can taste soapy. One tablespoon is more than enough.

3. Caramel Coffee Syrup (Rich & Sweet)
Caramel Syrup gives that soft, buttery, dessert-like, sweet taste, that’s rich and cozy.
It’s also great to add to iced teas or drizzle over ice creams.
Let’s get to the recipe, because it’s a little different from the ones above.
Caramel Coffee Syrup Method (slightly different):
- Melt 1 cup of sugar in a pot until it turns golden.
- Carefully and slowly add water. (Not more than one cup.)
- Stir it until it turns smooth and syrupy.
- Once it cools, store it in a glass jar.
Disclaimer: Be careful when making it, as hot sugar can burn.
4. Honey Cinnamon Coffee Syrup (Cozy & Spiced)
Honey Cinnamon coffee syrup is one of my favorites to make.
Its vibe is warm and comforting, like a mother’s kiss.
It’s great in hot and iced coffee drinks, so let’s make Honey Cinnamon Coffee Syrup.
- To the syrup base, add 2 tbsp of honey and 1 cinnamon stick.
- Stir until it dissolves.
- Pour it into a glass jar or bottle once it cools.

- To the syrup base, add 2 tbsp pistachio paste.
- Stir slowly until the paste dissolves into the base.
- As it simmers, turn off the heat.
- Once it cools, add it to a glass jar or bottle.
Disclaimer: Don’t have pistachio paste? Follow this alternative recipe.
- Add pistachios without kernels/shells into the syrup base.
- Let it simmer until the syrup tastes and smells like them.
- Strain the pistachios once they cool.
- Store the syrup in a glass bottle.

How to Store & Use Coffee Syrups?
Store the coffee syrups in glass jars or bottles and keep them in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Use them as usual in your coffee drinks.
Add 1–2 tbsp per coffee cup to keep it flavourful and delicious.
Pro tip: Label jars in any color or font you like to make them aesthetically pleasing.
How to Use These Coffee Syrups?
Incorporating these into your recipes is easy.
You have to take the syrups out and add them to your cold brew to sweeten it, and you can also add them to your lattes and iced coffees.
Or drizzle it over desserts to make them a little extra special.
Here’s how to do that with your coffee drinks:
Once you’ve brewed espresso or made your shot of instant coffee, add the syrup and stir until fully combined.
Follow your usual recipe accordingly, and your latte or iced coffee is ready.
